Middle Schooler Helps Boy With Cerebral Palsy Win Wrestling Match: See His Touching Act of Sportsmanship (VIDEO)

Meet 13-year-old Jared Stevens, a 7th grader from Sunset Middle School in Tennessee who, like any other teenager, likes to participate in his favorite sports. What makes him different, however, is that Jared has cerebral palsy.

Jared’s father, Phil, tells The Tennessean, “Jared just like to do stuff like everybody else… he just enjoys being out there participating.” And so he joined his school’s wrestling team, practicing with them daily. When he expressed his desire to participate in a match, Jared’s coach, Clay Mayes, took action, calling a coach from rival Freedom Middle School seeking an opponent.

“It wasn’t about weight class,” Mayes says. “I told him to point me toward the kid who has the kindest heart.”

Enter Justin Kievit, a fellow 7th grader and wrestler who was matched against Jared. In a video now gone viral, we see Justin shake Jared’s hand and then proceed to help Jared pin him to the mat as the crowd cheers with encouragement. Justin admits to being a little nervous at first but tells The Tennessean, “I kind of figured out what to do.”

Jared’s father uploaded the video and the match has now garnered more than 87,000 shares on Facebook in less than a week.

You can watch the match in its entirety below, but warning: Your heart will be thoroughly warmed!
