Alicia Silverstone Shares Her Holiday Detox Soup Recipe — And It’s Vegan!
The holidays mean eating — lots and lots of eating.
Come Thanksgiving we're bombarded with an endless supply of sweet treats, rich foods, and party snacks. For those of us not used to blasting our systems with sugar, dairy, and all those oh-so-delicious carbs, a weekend of festive eating can bring on a wicked holiday food hangover.
Alicia Silverstone shares our pain, and in her latest post on The Kind Life, she shares her secret for recovering her system after one feast too many: detox Soup. The soup base for this vegan recipe is miso, steeped with all the healthy vegetables she had on hand.
I made miso soup from ingredients I had in the house: celery, bok choy, light and dark miso, carrots, leeks, dried shiitake mushrooms soaked and sliced (very healing), scallions, and cilantro. [...] We also had some sweet rice mixed with short grain rice. [...] This is all I ate all day, and I felt so much better.
If Alicia's laid-back approach to recipe-sharing has you stumped, you’ll be happy to learn that miso soup is actually incredibly easy to prepare. Simply combine 4 tablespoons of miso paste to 4 cups boiling water, reduce to simmer for 5 minutes, then add all the veggies you like.
