The X Factor’s Diamond White: “No One Is Safe” — Exclusive

As we get closer to the finals on The X Factor, we’re beginning to face the hard realities of what it feels like when our favorites go home. Although Diamond White has had a tumultuous time on the show — and was even eliminated a few weeks ago before her dreams were resurrected — she shone brightly on the December 5 show. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the 13-year-old hopeful to chat about bouncing back from the bottom and pleasing her fans.

How hard was it to go from the bottom two to performance night tonight?
Well, being in the bottom motivates me to want to do better and it makes me feel like, don’t get too comfortable with what you did, don’t feel like you’re in such a good spot that you can’t go anywhere because no one is safe, honestly. Vino was third and now he’s gone. So it’s crazy thinking that I could possibly be going home tomorrow. Anyone can. But I’m feeling really good about my performances.

You should feel really good. Was it about the right songs or the added motivation?
I feel like that moment of singing for my life and trying to do everything I can to be sent to this week – when they played it back on the screen I was like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ I felt this same emotion, I have this chance to sing and I’m going to take it and do my best, because that’s really all I can do. And after that I can’t do anything and I can’t stress about it.

What was your chat like with Britney?
I didn’t get to see her after the show, this time, but I did get to see and he gave me a pep talk before I performed and it was really cool coming from him, because he is the man, and he was my mentor, so hearing those words from him, and saying don’t stress out about it, you’re going to do awesome - it made me feel better about what was going to happen.

What did you think about your fan song?
I love that they chose that for me! It was very fitting, for reasons that are very obvious, but I feel like they know the type of artist they want me to be and I’m just taking their ideas and really doing them. This whole outfit, this whole thing was my fans and I feel like I dedicated my song to them. And no matter what the comments were, if they enjoyed the song and they enjoyed me singing it, they’ll get me votes.

Which song has felt most like you throughout the competition?
This is difficult because all of the performances feel like me because I have such a major input in them, and it’s me being young and me experiencing what I could possibly do in the future. What I could do on tour. Especially flying! I definitely want to do that again on tour. I feel like all my performances are really me and tonight I showed my rock side and I showed my pop side that I haven’t really shown.
