We’ve always been a little suspicious about Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick)’s relationship with Nate (Chace Crawford), seeing as the two spend a lot of time together in their jammies and robes on Gossip Girl. But because Blair (Leighton Meester) has always been in the picture for Chuck — and Nate has had more girlfriends than we can count — we’ve largely let this go.
But then we were looking back at a few things, and saw something interesting. Namely, we recalled that in the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, Chuck had little in common with the present day television version of the rakish character.
In the books, Chuck isn’t all about Blair — he’s just all about Chuck. And part of that lavishness and excess is that he beds whomever he pleases. By that we mean that ladies love cool Chuck, but so do the fellas. So, is Chuck bisexual? Yep. But as far as we’ve seen, that’s a part of him that was locked up in the “only in the books” archive of Gossip Girl (along with his ACTUAL PET MONKEY).
Do you think Chuck would have been a more interesting character if his television self had this in common with his ink-n-paper persona?
