Nurse Fooled By Kate Middleton Prank Call Dead in Suspected Suicide (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns the radio station where the DJs made the prank call, released a statement (via TMZ) reading, in part, "SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."

Original story:

It's hard to imagine this tragedy is just about the prank call Australian DJs made to King Edward VII Hospital, but it's possible it was the last straw for Jacintha Saldanha.

She's the nurse who received the call from the DJs — who were pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, asking for information on Kate Middleton's health. Jacintha patched the call through to another nurse, who divulged the medical information. The DJs aired the call, saying they couldn't even believe their accents were believed. The story made headlines around the world, with the hospital and radio station apologizing. That was just a couple of days ago.

This morning, Scotland Yard officers responded to reports of a woman found unconscious at an address in central London. She was pronounced dead at the scene in a suspected suicide, although cause of death and other details were not immediately revealed.

According to Us Weekly, she is survived by a husband and two children, among other family members. John Lofthouse, Chief Executive of King Edward VII Hospital, told Us Weekly, "Jacintha was an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular."

The timing of the events naturally leads to speculation that she was upset about the hoax, but we don't know what else was going on in her life. Whatever the cause of her death, may she rest in peace.
