Revenge’s Emily VanCamp Reveals Why She Almost Didn’t Land the Role of Emily Thorne (VIDEO)
Every week on Revenge, we watch in awe as Emily Thorne transitions from black hoodies to bandages dresses without batting an eyelash, and the master of disguise and deceit is played by Canadian actress Emily VanCamp.
Before Revenge, Emily was known for her girl-next-door roles on the popular shows Everwood and Brothers & Sisters, but now she’s recognized for kicking ass and X-ing off names.
Now that we’re halfway through Season 2, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role, but at a recent press conference, Emily revealed she almost didn’t land the part.
“When I met with [executive producer] Marty Bowen and [show creator] Mike Kelley, Marty called my agent and said, ‘I just don’t think people are going to buy her as this kind of character,’” Emily revealed. “And I was like, ‘OK, well let me come in and prove it to you.’ Because I’ve got a dark side — everybody’s got a dark side.”
And Ms. VanCamp was certainly able to tap into her more sinister side; in fact, playing this dynamic role comes as a relief after years of playing the “good girl.”
“I take a lot of pleasure in playing this character,” Emily continued. “And I really wanted to play something totally different and outside the box. It’s kind of fun to see the good girl go bad.”
