Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With the Stars Season 16 Rumors: New, Younger Judge Considered — Maybe Derek Hough?

If Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba hadn't already stolen the move, we'd consider falling off our chairs. Too many change rumors are coming at us — although all are unconfirmed at this point.

We've already heard that DWTS is considering scaling back to one season a year. An insider told, The Powers That Be will see how the spring DWTS Season 16 goes. If ratings are good, they will probably have another fall edition. If not, well... Other changes include the possibility of moving from L.A. to New York City for a future season (not Season 16), which would probably make the Chmerkovskiy boys and Tony Dovolani particularly happy.

HollywoodLife's source also said DWTS wants to do what other shows have done and "potentially add a younger, well-named judge for the show." The source added an exciting tease for anyone sad that Derek Hough has said he's considering an end to his DWTS run ... at least as a pro dancer.

"Some of the dancers may remove themselves from the dancing part and may become judges themselves," the source said. "The favorites like Derek have been considered for that type of role, but the producers are aware that Derek gets celebrities to the show because they want to dance with him, so they are taking that under consideration moving forward as well.”

They must also be taking into consideration that Derek has expressed interest in leaving. Although he's also expressed interest in wanting to stay part of the show in some way. Derek is probably having conversations with producers, and perhaps they will throw in the idea of judging. He does love a challenge, and it's something the three-time Mirror Ball trophy winner hasn't done on DWTS yet. There are also these options for replacement judges, if they really intend to go in that direction. Maybe Maksim Chmerkovskiy could see how it feels on the other side of the judges' table, after his pro dancer contract ends.

What do you think about the idea of new judges, skewing younger, and the idea of going to NYC for a season? By the way, if you want DWTS to air twice a year, make sure to tell everyone you know to watch the spring Season 16, which starts Monday, March 18, 2013, on ABC!
