The Walking Dead: Do You Want to See a Flashback to the Outbreak?
It’s not really up to us what The Powers That Be provide, but — just out of curiosity — would you want to see what happened to launch the walker revolution of The Walking Dead?
The AMC show has aired three-and-a-half seasons so far, and only referenced how people handled what happened (like Shane, Lori and Carl leaving Rick in the hospital), not exactly what it looked like or any kind of trigger or cause. It’s interesting to think what might have happened, and how other characters dealt with it to become the survivors they are today. But don’t wait up for those answers.
"I don't find that to be interesting at all," executive producer/comic book writer Robert Kirkman told TVGuide.com. "In zombie fiction, you see the outbreak, you see the first days and the craziness in almost every other story told in this realm. I'm very proud of the fact that, for the most part, The Walking Dead has skipped over that part."
He recommended fans watch Zach Snyder's Dawn of the Dead or Shaun of the Dead to see good examples of zombie outbreaks.
It would slow down the momentum to do flashbacks like that, but they could do more webisodes detailing what happened. That would cover the fans who want that without bogging down the story or frustrating people who just want to move forward. It would also be cool to step back and see the big picture of how things look outside of this Georgia area. Or is that too broad for this intentionally specific show?
What do you think? Do you want to see what happened or would you like to preserve the mystery in case it doesn’t turn out the way you imagined?
