Giuliana Rancic: It’s Hard Leaving Baby Duke For Work
Giuliana Rancic told Life & Style she was having the best time with her son, Duke, the other morning, "and he was making faces that I had never seen before, and he was being so cute.” Then she looked at the clock and realized she had to go to work. “So I keep thinking, am I going to miss something?”
Giuliana and Bill Rancic welcomed their baby back in August, and she took three months off for maternity leave before returning to E! News in November. Bill sends her smartphone videos of Duke throughout the day, which helps, although it's not quite the same as being there.
“I could give you the Hollywood answer and just say it’s been great going back to work,” Giuliana told Life & Style, “but the real answer is, it’s hard. What’s important now is different from what was important a few months ago.”
Actually that's pretty much the standard Hollywood answer — with a few tweaks, like when actresses talk about how they'll go after different roles now that they are moms, or scale back their work altogether. It's rarely the dads who say anything like that, though. The pressure is usually on Mom to either stay home with the baby or "do it all" by balancing both career and home life equally. It's tough.
