Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Lisa Vanderpump on Vanderpump Rules and Which Real Housewives Co-Star Makes a Confrontational Cameo — Exclusive

As we saw in Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 3, Episode 6, Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant Sur is high on drama. Her spin-off, Vanderpump Rules, focuses on the staff’s personal and work lives and debuts January 7 on Bravo. At the show’s launch party on December 10, Lisa told Wetpaint Entertainment how she tries to keep her staff in check, which of the Housewives has a confrontation with a Sur waitress, and what her plans are for the holidays.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What can you tell us about the show?
Lisa Vanderpump: It’s got a different energy to Housewives that’s for sure. Housewives to me, is such a genius franchise but this does feel different. It’s Hollywood and you do see a different aspect of my life, you see me working and you see me kind of running and trying to reign in this 20-something young crowd that sometimes get a little carried away and it’s my job to bring them back down to planet earth. Sometimes that’s not always easy and also the dynamic in their relationships, because some of them have worked with me for 2, 3, 4, 5 years. Some of them — like Scheana Marie has worked with me for three-and-a-half years, Kristen, Stassi two or three years; this show wasn’t cast. So you kind of drop right in the middle of these complex relationships.

It seems as if the cast gets along okay; I’m sure there are some dramatic moments….
Oh I would love that; did you say they all get along?! What couple of minutes was that? No, they don’t all get along but you know what, I hope that when we’re on the restaurant floor they can try and kind of hold it together. But you know there’s a lot of them, in the show there’s probably six or seven main characters that stand out but there’s a lot of complicated history between them.

Why a show, why now Lisa?
Why not, really? It kind of spoke volumes to Bravo I think, I was doing Housewives and they saw this other aspect of my life which was too big to put on Housewives so I think they thought it warrants its own show.

Will any of the friendly Housewives be making guest appearances?
They are very friendly Housewives aren’t they? Yeah, they are! Well Brandi [Glanville] does actually come into one episode, the first episode and something comes to fruition that clearly needed to be dealt with, with one of my waitresses. There was some kind of history between her and her ex-husband and one of my waitresses if you saw that on Housewives so that needs to be dealt with.

So how do you referee in a situation like that?
Well, I really kind of was instrumental in putting them together, but it was at one of their requests and so then I had to step out of it really because at some point it becomes not my business.

What are your plans for the holidays?
Oh well everybody says stay home and relax and their idea of relaxing is me running around cooking all day! I think that’s what I’ll be doing. I think my restaurant is closed one day over the holidays, so that will be the day when I’m cooking! In one way, I wish it was open and I could come and eat here!
