Huge Honda Recall : Odysseys, Pilots, and Acura MDXs Reported to Roll Away With Ignition Off
Scary stuff — for drivers and for Honda.
The Japanese car manufacturer announced the recall of over 800,000 vehicles after dozens of reports of cars rolling away with the ignition turned off. The problem? The key can be removed without the car being in Park. Evidently, the safety measure — called an ignition switch interlock — can wear away over time, rather than being outright faulty. Either way, it needs to be replaced in all recalled vehicles.
Among the affected models are 2003–2004 Odysseys minivans and 2003–2004 Pilot SUVs, as well as 2003–2006 Acura MDXs. Honda says that they’ll notify owners of the recall by mail in early February 2013, but in the meantime the company encourages car owners to see authorized Honda dealers to repair the faulty ignition switch interlock.
More details on the recall can be found at Honda and Acura.
