Kanye West may have catapulted Kim Kardashian’s star power to a completely different level, but his own career doesn’t seem to have benefitted quite so much from the force that is Kimye.
According to a new report for the New York Daily News, Kanye is in a state of panic over his now less-esteemed reputation since getting together with Kim. The site reports that Yeezy isn’t getting the respect he once got in the music and fashion communities and that his album and ticket sales have been plummeting.
“His personal life is overpowering his music,” an industry insider said. “Every time he plays, people are wondering if Kim is going to be there. It’s not a good thing for him, especially if he wants to be taken seriously.”
During Kanye’s recent performance at the 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit concert, a large portion of the audience reportedly walked out, deciding to take a bathroom break for Yeezy’s set and discussing the rapper’s bizarro skirt ensemble on the way out.
“Literally half the audience got up to go to the bathroom and it was the talk of the men’s room,” one audience member said.
Still, Kanye wouldn’t be Kanye if he didn’t already have a comeback plan in place.
“He has been meeting with top-level music executives seeking advice,” the source added. “He’s not happy with the direction things have been going.”
