Glee Creator Ryan Murphy Strips Twitter Account — Deletes All His Tweets

Update: As of December 20, Ryan has started tweeting again, and he's already uploaded four new photos.

In the months since he first joined Twitter back in July 2012, Glee creator Ryan Murphy has been virtually an unstoppable force on the site. He’s tweeted countless behind-the-scenes photos, offered juicy teases of what’s to come, and answered hundreds upon hundreds of fan questions during one of his many fan Q&As.

Then, on December 18, it all suddenly went away. Sometime around mid-morning on Tuesday, Ryan stripped his Twitter account bare. He removed all profile photos and background images, unfollowed everyone he had been following, and deleted every last one of his tweets.

All of the photos were gone. All of the tweets were gone. The only thing that remained was a shell of a profile. At first, we saw no explanation as to why Ryan’s profile was all but deleted. So was his account hacked? Did he just up and decide to quit Twitter? We were left with so many unanswered questions!

Then at 3:15 that afternoon, Ryan tweeted, “Account wasn't hacked. I will be back. Happy Holidays!

It sounds like Ryan is simply taking a break from technology for the holidays. (His sort-of alter-ego Bryan on The New Normal would certainly approve!) But if he simply wanted to go on a technology fast, why delete everything he’s ever tweeted?

As of now, Ryan’s account still has 349,707 followers — there just aren’t any photos or tweets for those followers to see.
