If you follow any of your favorite Glee stars on Twitter, you are probably aware that several of them are currently recording solo albums. So which of them are pulling double duty — both starring in a TV show and recording an album at the same time? Here’s a look at which of your favorite actors are preparing for their big solo debuts.
In September 2012, Lea Michele (Rachel) announced that she was “officially on the road” to making her first album. The Glee star may have gotten her start on Broadway, but don’t expect any show tunes here. Lea wants her first solo album to be full of pop songs and she’s even teaming up to work with Katy Perry’s songwriter.
“I want to make songs where girls can just roll down the windows of their car or dance around in their rooms in their underwear,” Lea told NYLON magazine earlier this year. That said, you won’t be able to strip down to your skivvies just quite yet. Lea’s still in the process of recording the songs, so the completed album might not be out for a while.
Yet given how often Lea tweets about being in the recording studio, we’d say she’s making pretty good progress. Hopefully, the release date will get here sooner than we think!
Given that timeline — and the fact that 2013 is, like, five minutes away — we’re hoping to hear something soon. Naya has previously stated that her album will feature dance pop music, and her co-star Dianna Agron (Quinn) has already taken to Twitter to brag about how awesome the songs are.
“I've already heard some of her tracks,” Dianna tweeted back in June. “They're epic.”
Back in May 2011, Amber Riley (Mercedes) told Marie Claire magazine that she was working on recording her debut album, and that she hoped to release it by late 2012. Well, 2012 has pretty much come and gone, and we haven’t seen a single song off Amber’s album.
“I've been taking my time and I really wanted to give it my focus,” she told Parade this September. “It's a big dream of mine and I can't wait for everyone to hear what I've been doing.” While co-star Lea Michele is sticking solely to pop music, Amber wants to mix things up. She told Marie Claire that she’s writing all her own music, and that she wants to include plenty of variety — everything from rock to R&B. And don’t worry, Mercedes fans, she wants to include some Adele-style power ballads for sure.
Darren Criss (Blaine) released an EPback in September 2010. But just in case those 5 songs on Human don’t seem like nearly enough, the Glee star also has a full-length studio album in the works!
Darren will record his debut solo album with Columbia Records. Unfortunately, just because the news has been floating around since Spring 2011, that doesn’t mean the finished album will be hitting shelves anytime soon.
“Slowly but surely, I’m finding the right things I would hopefully one day want to release,” Darren recently told Hollywood Life. While many of his Glee co-stars are seeing less screentime now that their characters have graduated, Darren is still a full-time cast member. That means less free time for him to work on an album.
