Does Elena Gilbert Have a Baby? Vampire Diaries Fan Question of the Day

It seems like everyone in the world is pregnant these days. (We’re looking at you, Kim Kardashian.) But does this baby boom extend to Mystic Falls, where there are only three or four humans left to impregnate?

We got a Vampire Diaries fan question recently, asking whether Ms. Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) has a baby somewhere she’s been really, really neglecting. Here’s the deal:

First, if Elena had conceived, she would’ve had to do so while human. “Vampire can’t procreate... though we love to try,” Damon (Ian Somerhalder) helpfully explained in Season 1, Episode 11, “Bloodlines.”

Now, we’re pretty sure that’s a major plot point that we would’ve seen. But since Elena didn’t knit any booties or lovingly rub her (extremely flat) belly once during Season 3, we’re guessing human Elena died childless. Aw.

Now that she’s a vampire, don’t expect her to get knocked up anytime soon. However, with this cure that Stefan (Paul Wesley) is so eager to find, there’s always the possibility that Elena could one day find herself carrying a Salvatore baby (provided one of the brothers also becomes human again).

Considering that Twilight already had something similar happen, we doubt TVD will follow suit. Plus, once you become a parent, your days in Mystic Falls are numbered.
