Pretty Little Liars Spoilers: What Happens in Season 3, Episode 16: “Misery Loves Company”?

The Pretty Little Liars Season 3 winter premiere is still a few days away (January 8), but at least we have spoilers to help us get through the wait!

Most recently, a press release from ABC Family reveals what we can expect from Season 3, Episode 16: "Misery Loves Company," which happens to be showrunner Marlene King's directorial debut.

In this episode, Aria (Lucy Hale) is "sidelined by the flu," which leaves Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) "on their own to follow up on a new clue."

Weirdly, "Meredith steps up to help take care of Aria while her father is away" (away where, we wonder). Less weirdly, "it starts to look like Meredith may have ulterior motives to her nursing Aria back to health," which leads Hanna and Em to "turn their attention towards saving their friend. Is Meredith just trying to start anew with Aria and be her number one fan, or is there reason for her friends to be concerned?"

And where's Spencer (Troian Bellisario) in all this? Oh, you know, just taking "a break from all the sleuthing to surprise Toby [Keegan Allen] for their anniversary." Sigh.

Let's remember that this is the episode where one of the Liars discovers the truth about Toby. Based on this press release, who do you think it is?

It sounds to us like Aria's too sick to make the discovery, unless her feverish state helps her put clues together. Emily and Hanna might stumble on the truth while following the new clue, or maybe Spencer discovers what's going on while setting up a surprise for Toby...

We're also thinking this is the episode where Aria sees Alison (Sasha Pieterse), since apparently she's very sick when that happens.

Speculate about what it all means in the comments below.

Catch the return of PLL Season 3 on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
