Bachelor Sean Lowe on Reality TV: “I Didn’t Really Want to Do It”
The first time Sean Lowe stepped out of the limo on Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette, it seemed like reality TV destiny. But, according to the man who will be starring on The Bachelor Season 17 when it premieres on January 7, it almost didn’t happen at all.
As Sean’s super fans know, his foray into Bachelor Nation was all thanks to his sister Shay and her husband Andrew. The story goes that Shay and her hubby were watching Ben Flajnik’s season of The Bachelor when ABC made the call out to viewers, asking for candidates for the next version of The Bachelorette.
“He’s the right age – they usually look for ‘em in their late 20s, early 30s. Plus, he wasn’t seeing anybody, and it had been awhile since he had. He’s really likable, men, women, everyone loves him,” Shay told Wetpaint exclusively about sending his name into the process. Although he quickly became a household name, Sean wasn’t really stoked on the idea.
“My sister signed me up for the show. I didn't really want to do it. It took me by surprise. I didn't want to subject myself to public criticism. Then the casting agent said I would get to do some cool things like travel. I agreed to do it. Never in a million years, did I think I would have real feelings for a girl on a reality show,” Sean tells ESPN.
Can you imagine what would have happened if the aw-shucks Texan never made it on our TV screens and into our hearts?
