Bachelorette Emily Maynard might look like she came straight from the the Disney Princess factory, but even Mattel’s most brilliant Barbie designers couldn’t dream up the perfection that is Miss Em. The Bachelorette — and mom to Ricki Hendrick, let’s not forget her most important claim to fame — isn’t a real-life Barbie doll; she’s a down-to-earth Southern belle with a li’l “backwoods hood rat” thrown in.
Emily currently lives in a darling Tudor home in Charlotte, North Carolina, but she’s originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, where she grew up with her mom, dad, brother, and two sisters. In her Bachelor Season 16 bio, Emily playfully discussed how she balances her adult city-girl life with her rural roots. “Growing up in West Virginia I'm pretty sure my father would have disowned me if I didn't enjoy getting dirty, but I also couldn't live without some of the luxuries of living in a city."
In fact, in the Bachelorette Season 8 hometown dates, Emily showed Jef Holm just how down and dirty she was willing to get — hopping into an ATV on his family’s Utah ranch in a white peasant dress before showing off her impressive shooting skills. A shrinking violet this girl is not.
