Octomom Is Back on Welfare to Help Care For 14 Kids: Report
One of the many challenges of having 14 children is finding the money to care for them. It's hard for a lot of couples to take care of just one kid, but when you're one woman with 14 kids, things get a little out of control. According to TMZ, Nadya Suleman, aka Octomom, has signed up for welfare again, after five months away from government assistance.
She had been making good money through things like porn videos (she's even nominated for an award this month), but the stress of her life also sent her for a 30-day stint into rehab. TMZ's sources say Octomom only plans to use the welfare money while she gets back on her feet. She'll supposedly get $1,800 a month for food, and $1,000 for "emergency cash," whatever that means, plus Medi-Cal benefits to help with mental health and dental care.
The main reason Octomom is "famous" is the rubber-necking factor — it's easy to shake your head at her and feel sorry for the kids. Yeah, it's frustrating that taxpayers are back in the position of helping out, but at least she went a while without welfare (she reportedly had it from March to July 2012) and hopefully she can find a way to be self-sufficient again. Isn’t there some rich benefactor out there who really wants to help the kids? Let her solve her own problems, but don’t punish the kids.
