Mariah Carey Says Nicki Minaj Feud Created an “Unsafe Work Environment” on American Idol
As a pop singer with more chart-topping singles than Elvis, a mom to twins, and a new judge on the fast-approaching new season of American Idol, Mariah Carey is nothing if not insanely busy.
But when Barbara Walters comes knocking, you find a way to fit her into your schedule. Mimi did just that for an exclusive interview that will air on January 7 on Nightline.
What was probably most interesting was Mariah’s surprising revelation about the infamous feud between herself and fellow judge Nicki Minaj. Despite downplaying the profanity-laced argument in recent interviews, Mariah admitted that she beefed up security after some on the Idol set reportedly heard Nicki say, “If I had a gun, I would shoot that b*tch” in reference to the “Touch My Body” singer.
“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Mariah said. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”
While Mariah calls the story about the gun a “fabrication,” she did say that she wasn’t taking any chances, especially since she travels with her children.
The renowned diva did say that she hopes the feud will fuel excitement for the upcoming season.
“For all the drama, I hope it helps the show,” Mariah said. “I think it’s a classic, classy show and it didn’t need this.”
Do you think the Mariah and Nicki’s drama will help or hurt American Idol?
