Will The CW Give Supernatural a Spin-Off Show, Like The Vampire Diaries?
It's still not clear if there will be a Supernatural Season 9, but The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at Sunday's TCA press tour, "Creatively the show is in a good place." They're pleased with how Wednesday nights have developed, and he noted that Supernatural has actually gained viewers.
Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have deals for the next two potential seasons, and the network reportedly plans to make a final decision about Season 9 based on Supernatural's ratings when it returns from winter hiatus on January 16.
Since The Vampire Diaries is potentially getting a spin-off for Klaus and The Originals (sounds like a cool band name), would Supernatural ever do that for Castiel (Misha Collins)?
"You look at [whether the] audience is engaged. You look at that universe — can it actually launch something," the CW boss answered (via Zap2it). "Supernatural, if you decide to do a spin-off off of that, you [question] does it work? Does it incubate the show really well? We have a lot of characters on Vampire Diaries, and they're all rich, rich characters. Klaus and the Original family gives us an opportunity to do something where we can get more bang for the buck, so to speak."
That sounds like a no for a Supernatural spin-off, or at least not for Castiel. But we know SPN fans are certainly “engaged” — they even beat out TVD fans at the People's Choice Awards! What do you think about a SPN spinoff?
