American Idol 2013 Spoilers: Hidden Camera Auditions New Twist for Season 12!
On American Idol 2013, auditions came in a variety of different flavors this year. In addition to the standard cattle call mass events in various cities, American Idol 2013 producers sought out talent in some quite unusual ways this season.
One way American Idol season 12 reached out to find hidden gems this time around was to invade small towns across the country on the hunt for future superstars. "We've actually taken an American Idol bus out to the little towns this year, with a producer on board," Nigel says, according to USA Today. "That introduced new talent to us, I must say." How would you like to know you had auditioned for American Idol on hidden camera and had no idea? Apparently that's one way executive producer Nigel Lythgoe says the show searched out singers this season. Some of the hopefuls this year were actually nominated by friends and family who thought the person would be great "but were a little too nervous to audition." To find out if they really did have the right stuff, American Idol 2013 judge Randy Jackson snuck up on the hopefuls with a concealed camera. The singers Randy approved from these candid performances were able to skip the insane lines at the mass auditions and perform directly in front of the American Idol 2013 judges.
As always, however, the future American Idol 2013 winner will have to possess more than just a great voice to win the hearts of fans. "What they've always had to do, which is capture the vote," Lythgoe says. "It isn't always the voice. It is about charisma, it is about personality, it is about attracting an audience, and doing that week on week."
