The official poster for the second half of Season 3 (which starts February 10) shows Rick and The Governor in an "eye for an eye" showdown. A new promo (watch below) shows many humans shooting each other or plotting against each other.
It all looks very dramatic, and we can’t wait to see it — but as fan Trav Lee noted in the comments of our video post: "not a single zombie in that entire promo. sad." (Granted, he was responding to an earlier version of this promo, where everything was blurry and it was hard to make out what was going on. As it happens, you can see a walker behind Rick at one point.)
Maybe zombies are an endangered species in the zombie apocalypse of Season 3, Episodes 9-16. At this point, the human survivors (the real walking dead) know how to handle walkers. They are more of a nuisance than a terrorizing threat — unless you end up attacked by a huge herd, like at the farm last season, or trapped with them in the prison, like in the first half of Season 3.
It’s not like the season hasn’t had any zombies or won’t have any in the back half. A previously released promo does show a little bit of walker action. And we've had more zombie kills in the first few episodes of this season than all of last season (they are even lovingly documented here). But now it feels like the AMC show has evolved to focus more on the human conflict in a post-civilized world. Alpha dog vs. alpha dog, with the occasional walker showing up.
How do you feel about that? It’s not necessarily a bad thing; it may be a welcome evolution, depending on your point of view. Do you wish the new promo included more zombie attacks, or are you good with the chief conflict focusing on Rick's Team Prison vs. The Governor's Team Woodbury?
