D’oh! Downton Abbey Star’s White Dress Doused in Red Wine at Golden Globes
The horror! If this happened at Downton Abbey, the server would surely be sacked — even if it wasn't his fault.
Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) wore one of our favorite gowns at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards — an Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress with a long stretch of white from the waist to the floor. That much white fabric is just crying out for an oopsie, and Us Weekly says it happened after the ceremony ended, when the Downton star was talking to actress Julianna Margulies and Julianna's husband. As they were leaving the ballroom, they accidentally knocked into someone carrying a drink tray, and among the items that fell was a glass of red wine that spilled down Michelle's dress. Dun-dun-DUN!
According to the story, Michelle covered her mouth in horror, but composed herself like a lady. She asked a woman in the group to get her some white wine, then covered herself in a white wrap to try to hide the stains.
They can always fix the dress — but now she has a memorable story to tell! And a reminder to maybe consider wearing black next year.
