Once Upon a Time

Should Regina Be Redeemed on OUAT? You Tell Us

Redeeming villains is always a tricky thing to do. Writers can give them sympathetic backstories and have them change their ways, but does that really make up for all the harm they’ve caused? And can they do it without losing what made the character interesting in the first place?

The point is, it's a fine line to walk. So far Once Upon a Time has done a good job with Regina's (Lana Parrilla) redemption arc in Season 2. Her love for Henry (Jared Gilmore) is a pretty great reason for her to change. Not to mention that her backstory with Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) makes perfect sense with what we know of Rumple back in the bad old days.

However, while Regina is slowly changing her wicked ways, she's no white hat yet, and there's still a big chance she'll backslide, especially with Cora (Barbara Hershey) around. Mommy Dearest doesn't exactly bring out the best in her daughter.

Here's the question: Are you hoping Regina manages to stay on the (slow and painful) path toward true redemption, or do you miss the days when she was an unrepentant and, frankly, pretty awesome villain?
