Val Chmerkovskiy: Backstage at DWTS, Not Everyone Is As They Seem
They say you should never meet your heroes, but maybe it's OK to teach them how to dance. Val Chmerkovskiy has been a pro on Dancing With the Stars for three seasons — and hopefully four with Season 16, which starts March 18. New York Press asked him to name a star he was excited to meet. "Last season we had Jaleel White," Val said of the Season 14 competitor. "I mean that’s Steve Urkel. When I moved here from the Ukraine, that’s how I learned English — watching him on Family Matters." [Cue Urkel's "Did I do that?" Yes, you did!] “Now he’s asking me how to do a dance move. It’s surreal in some ways."
But not everyone we see on TV is the same way behind the scenes. Asked what it's like backstage at DWTS, Val told the NY Press:
“It’s a lot of fun. The best part is that you’re part of a family. All in all, there are a lot of good people I had the opportunity to work with. In terms of what you really want to know about backstage, not everyone who comes off on television the way they do is like that in reality. It’s Hollywood, and people put on a great show. When you meet people you’ve been a fan of for a long time, you might be disappointed — or inspired — by them.”
It’s a shame he didn’t share examples. Don’t tease us Val! If you’re going to dish some behind-the-scenes scoop, dish a juicier helping.
