As we reported in November, the Bravo star recently became a contributing editor to the popular magazine’s site, discussing her family’s journey with autism. Though her first blog wasn’t scheduled to appear online until February, we received an early gift with her heartwarming post.
After introducing herself and briefly explaining the circumstances around Nicholas’s diagnosis, she detailed how it all started, including how he “enjoyed playing by himself and seemed content in his own little world.”
Our hearts broke again as she recanted the moment when Nick stopped saying he loved her. “When Nicholas stopped saying ‘I love you,’ it was devastating. As a mom, when your child starts to talk, hearing those three little words is something you cherish,” she wrote. “Losing that broke my heart.”
Jacqueline went on to write about the official diagnosis, explaining the emotional aftermath of that important doctor’s visit. She wrote, “I went home, hugged my husband, and cried until I couldn't cry anymore,” she said. “I cried for myself; I cried for my husband; I cried for my other kids, and I cried for my Nicholas.”
However, as always, Jacq was positive about the future, explaining that she read everything she could about autism, changed up Nick’s diet and nutrition, and went public with the info. Most importantly, she wants readers to know that they should share their stories with her, and that this isn’t something to be ashamed of.
“We don't ever want him to feel ashamed,” she concluded. “My son is a beautiful little boy who is very smart and loving. Autism is one small piece of who he is.”
