While some shows thrive on the constant introduction of wacky guest stars, Gossip Girl has been anchored for six years by a core group of rad characters. Whether you’ve been dressing and scheming like Blair (Leighton Meester) in hopes of landing your own Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), or sitting at a hotel bar for years, practicing your best look of ennui, chances are you’ve grown fond of the GG crew.
With the series finale still hanging in our rear view mirror, we bet we’re not the only ones wondering about possible spin-offs for the show. Imagine Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) opening up a private eye firm and catching cheating husbands in the act, or Nate (Chace Crawford) starting a brothel. Primetime gold, you guys.
Sadly, no spin-offs ever came to be, no matter how many letters we wrote. But the show did inspire other countries to get gossiping. In China, a series called China Girl has been in the works, with GG creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage consulting.
According to the LA Times, this is a pretty big deal for China, where most of the American imports are game shows. “The scripts for China Girl had to be approved in advance by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television before production could start,” which could mean a lot of hoops to jump through if they’re working on similarly racy content.
And China isn’t the only country wanting to share secrets. In Mexico, a series titled Gossip Girl: Acalpulco is in the works with some hot young actors and is set to air in 2013. What are the Spanish names for Chuck and Blair?
