Facebook Plea to Amass 1 Million Likes Gets Kids a New Puppy
Ryan and Evie Cordell, who live outside of Boston, didn’t know what they were in for when they bet their daughters if they could get 1 million likes on their Facebook page, Twogirlsandapuppy, the family could get a new puppy.
It was actually the girls’ plan, after getting the idea from reading about the Urbano family in nearby Newton, Mass. Back in November, the Urbanos got a new cat after a similar parent/child bet, however, the Urbano kids only needed 1,000 likes per their wager. They got more than 10,000.
So when the Cordell girls begged their folks to make a similar bet, their parents never imagined their kids’ photo would get even close to the 1 million likes. On a Good Morning America appearance, Evie said, “They were joking with my husband and said, ‘What if we got one million likes?,’ and my husband was like, ‘Sure.“ She goes on to say, “I really don’t know how it moved so quickly. We thought it’d top out at maybe 2,000 people.” Doggone it, were they wrong! Nearly 1.7 million likes later, the sign that read, “Hi World, We want a puppy. Our dad said we can get one if we get 1 million Likes! So LIKE this! He doesn’t think we can do it!” has Ryan and Evie searching on Petfinder.com for a furry family addition that they expect to have within the next month. The moral of the story? Never bet against puppy love!
