Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: James Franco Discusses the Book — Might He Play Christian Grey?
James Franco has a sexy upcoming movie, so of course he was asked about the epitome of sexy upcoming movies, Fifty Shades of Grey.
The jack-of-all-trades is executive producing kink, a documentary about the BDSM website kink.com, which is curently screening at Sundance. The Hollywood Reporter wanted to know if Fifty Shades of Grey has made the public more interested in the world of bondage.
"I haven't read it," James admits. So he's the one person left in the world who hasn't read it!
But James says it's possible that the book reflects people's overall fascination in sexier subject matter these days.
"Maybe I was just feeling what was in the air — that people are interested in this," the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star continues.

The film's director, Christina Voros, was also asked if she was influenced by the book. "I also admittedly haven't read it," she says, but she does think the book helped her movie's cause.
"The success of that book is maybe because it took what makes pornography so sort of ubiquitous and used it to its advantage — which was that it came out as an e-book and allowed people to read it without having to own up to buying it and having to go to Barnes and Nobles and picking it up," Christina explains.
"It allowed them to explore the material much in the same way people explore pornography, which is in the comfort of their own home for the most part," she says. "It sort of started trending and people started taking about it."
Meanwhile, James goes on to explain that he's just a sexy guy.
"These kinds of subjects — sexuality and anti-normativity — this kind of thing has been a big interest of mine for a while," James says.
So sexuality is a big interest of his? Good to know! Does this mean the 34-year-old actor might be gunning for the role of Christian Grey? We wouldn't be surprised.
