The new Dallas reboot hoped to keep J.R. going for some time, but with the tragic death of actor Larry Hagman, something had to happen to explain his sudden disappearance. According to TV Guide Magazine (via TVLine), J.R. will be murdered by an unknown assailant toward the middle of the show's second season, which starts January 28. J.R.'s funeral will air on March 11.
“We all felt having J.R. die of natural causes would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman,” executive producer Cynthia Cidre told TV Guide.
It does seem like such a larger-than-life personality should go out with a bang. It's just a shame he can't come back again this time.
