Is Kim Kardashian Already Using Her Baby as a Bargaining Chip? Exclusive
After the big news broke that Kim Kardashian is expecting her first child, E! President Suzanne Kolb – otherwise known as the Head of the Kardashian Channel – released a statement saying the network would be along for the whole ride. Her statement reads: “We look forward to sharing the joy as they prepare for more diapers, more bottle and without a doubt, more fabulous baby wear." Not so fast, replied Kim. In fact, when Us Weekly asked if the birth would be filmed, she gave them a firm “no.” And a family insider told the magazine Kim and baby daddy Kanye West won’t even allow cameras near the kid for at least the first six months.
So who’s telling the truth? We turned to Jo Piazza, author ofCelebrity Inc.: How Famous People Make Money and expert on all things related to money and the Kardashians, who told us Kim’s current refusal to put her baby on display is likely nothing more than an extremely clever bargaining chip. “Right now, Kim’s trying balance her brand as a TV star and her role as a new mother,” Piazza explains. “She wants to look protective of her unborn baby – but she’s still a smart business woman. There’s no way she’s not selling the rights to the birth or at least part of the birth. But putting up resistance and making it seem like she’s opposed to the idea will force the network to offer up a bigger paycheck.” “If she agreed to do it from the start, she’d get far less than if she puts up a bit of a fight,” Piazza adds. “As ever, she’s being very shrewd and will likely get the enormous amount she’s going to be asking for a few months down the line.” Cha-ching, baby.
