Once Upon a Time Season 2: Our 4 Biggest Questions About Cora and Rumplestiltskin’s Relationship

We already knew Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) was Cora's (Barbara Hershey) magical mentor, but Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 12: “In the Name of the Brother” added a twist to their relationship when Cora asked that they seal a deal the way they used to — with a kiss.

What the what?! We have a ton of questions about WTF was going on with them, and we're hoping we'll get the answers soon (probably in Season 2, Episode 16: "The Miller's Daughter"). Here are our four biggest.

1. How does their backstory relate to the actual Rumplestiltskin story? In the traditional Rumplestiltskin story, Rumple saves a miller's daughter whose father lied and said she could spin straw into gold. We assume Cora is a stand-in for that character, but will the straw into gold element play in, or will she seek Rumple out for some other reason (such as a desire for more power)?

2. How does Regina factor in? In the classic story, the miller's daughter agrees to trade her firstborn child for Rumple's help, but ends up saving her child by guessing his name. Will something similar happen between Cora and Rumple, involving Regina (Lana Parrilla)? Is that why Rumple told Regina he once held her in his arms as a baby? Is his name really that powerful in this show? Could it be related to her finding the Dark One dagger and controlling him that way?

3. Um ... were they romantic? We can't really imagine Rumple at his most evil being lured by Cora's charms, but why else would they seal things with a kiss?

4. Could Regina be Rumple's daughter? Fans have been wondering about this for a while, and the kiss just ignited the speculation spark. We really hope it's not true — there are enough complicated family relationships as it is!
