Which ’80s Sitcom Star Says Her Husband Revealed He Was Gay and Had Cheated on Her With Guys?
Here's a fact: Marriage doesn't always turn out so well.
This is something that Facts of Life star Charlotte Rae sadly had to learn the hard way.
Charlotte, who is now 86 years old, played Mrs. Edna Garrett on the beloved '80s sitcom. She reveals in a new memoir that her husband of 25 years confessed to her in 1975 that he was gay and had been cheating on her, according to Page Six.
"First came the shock of what he had done behind my back, then the sting of being deceived for years," Charlotte writes. "All I could feel was the betrayal and, worse than that, my shame."
Her husband was composer John Strauss, who wrote the soundtrack to the film Amadeus. She and John were married in 1950 and had two children before his shocking confession 25 years later. John died in 2011 after battling Parkinson's.
"John's secret confirmed my feelings of inferiority... That I was less than a woman... That I didn't deserve to be loved and valued," she writes.
Famous Facts of Life alums include George Clooney and Molly Ringwald.
The book, The Facts of My Life, is currently being shopped to publishers.
