Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars Season 3, Episode 16 Review: What Did You Think of “Misery Loves Company”?

Tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars (Season 3, Episode 16: "Misery Loves Company") felt more like a horror movie — and it was awesome.

Directed by showrunner Marlene King, “Misery Loves Company” was a game-changer in more ways than one. Not only did Spencer (Troian Bellisario) discover the truth about Toby’s (Keegan Allen) betrAyal, but Aria (Lucy Hale) came face-to-face with Meredith — or, as we like to call her, MereDEATH — who turned out to be a total psycho! Meanwhile, Hanna (Ashley Benson) came face-to-face with a warehouse full of creepy mannequins.

First things first: Spencer knows. And she’s known for a while. She just didn’t want to believe it. How could Toby be part of the “A” team? We have to admit, we’ve been wondering that ourselves. But don’t fret, Toby fans: He’s still going to be a huge part of Season 3B. And as the season goes on, we’ll learned what motivated Toby to put on the black hoodie. Still, that didn’t make Spencer’s sobbing any easier to bare.

Meanwhile, Aria had her own drama to deal with. It turns out Meredith’s tea wasn’t full of herbal remedies. She was trying to poison Aria! In her drugged out state, Aria hallucinates Alison (Sasha Pieterse), who didn’t tell us much about her murderer, but she did drop a few hints about the “A” team. When Aria wakes up, she realizes she’s locked inside of her room.

Enter Meredith, who turns into a total psycho as she confronts Aria about Ali’s journal. When Aria escapes, Meredith chases Aria throughout the house before knocking her out and dragging her body to the basement. Eek!

When Hanna and Emily (Shay Mitchell) come to check on their friend, Meredith manages to lure them downstairs, where they find Aria. Then, Byron (Chad Lowe) comes home — and just when you think things are going to turn into an episode of American Horror Story, Byron confesses everything to the Liars: He did see Ali the night of her murder, but he didn’t kill her. He walked away from her, certain she was going to expose the affair. But Ali wasn’t alone... Melissa was there!
