Jonathan Groff Has “Hardcore” Feelings on Who Rachel Should Date! — Exclusive

When it comes to relationships on Glee, we easily get very hardcore about which couples we want to end up together. As it turns out, Glee guest star Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James) feels the same way.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Jonathan at Morningstar Farm’s ChefDance at the Sundance film festival, where the gourmet menu was paired with cocktails by Zacapa Rum.

We asked the star — who played the on-and-off love interest of real-life best friend Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry in Glee Seasons 1 and 2 — who he thought Rachel should end up with.

“I have to admit, I’m a hardcore Rachel/Finn fan, just because they’re like the Ross and Rachel of the show,” Jonathan said. “So even though they’re very far apart right now, I’m always rooting for them.”

Yet with Rachel in New York and Finn (Cory Monteith) still in Ohio, fixing the ex-lovebird’s broken relationship won’t be easy. Jesse hasn’t appeared on Glee since Season 3 Nationals, but at that time, it seemed clear he was still carrying a torch for Rachel. Is it possible that Jesse might show up in NYC to try and win her back?

“You never know. I left the first time and I never thought I’d be back, but they ended up asking me back a couple of times. There’s no plan right now but you never know.”

However, now that his TV show, Boss, has been cancelled, Jonathan does have a bit more free time on his hands.

“I’m working on an animated Disney film that I’m doing a voice for,” he told us. “I’ve been working on that for the past couple of months so that’s something I have on the side — but other than that, basically looking for the next gig.”

That next gig could mean returning to his roots in theater, going after another TV show, or even diving more into movies. In fact, Jonathan is at Sundance for his new movie, C.O.G., an indie comedy based on the word of David Sedaris. The film also stars Pretty Little LiarsTroian Bellisario (Spencer).

“Right now the prerequisite is good material and good people,” he told us. “I’m open to anything as long as I like the project.”
