DWTS Season 16: Are There Too Many Controversial Stars Being Asked to Dance?

Disgraced athlete Lance Armstrong. Tragic disaster/actress Lindsay Lohan. The wife of a divisive political figure, Ann Romney. All three have reportedly turned down offers to be on Dancing With the Stars Season 16.

If these reports are true, then one thing seems very clear: the DWTS Powers That Be are doing their darndest to secure a truly controversial figure for next season.

We know the ABC execs weren't thrilled with the ratings for Season 15 All-Stars, so it's not a shock that their response is to try to get a big, divisive name, probably in the hopes that people will tune in for the drama.

But is that really the right strategy? Personally, we're here for the dancing. We'd rather see lesser known, but charming, and potentially talented stars — think J.R. Martinez — than people specially brought on to stir up controversy. After all, don’t they always get the boot in the first few weeks anyway?

What do you think: Are you worried about the names we've heard floated so far, or are you confident things will work out for the best?

Dancing With the Stars Season 16 premieres March 18, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
