Vanilla Ice Shares Advice For Justin Bieber: “I Hate to See What He’s Going to Go Through”
We know what you're thinking. Who the heck wants advice from Vanilla Ice, former big-time white boy rapper? Well, he's actually enjoying a decent second act. According to OK! Magazine, the guy whose real name is Robert Van Winkle invested wisely and has a nice fortune of expensive real estate, plus he now renovates homes through The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network.
He talked to OK! about finding early success (selling 160 million records) but also writing "Ice, Ice Baby" when he was only 16 — so where do you go from there? He's now a married 45-year-old father of two, but he empathizes with Justin Bieber, who is living out his breakup with Selena Gomez and weed allegations — and all other rumors — in the public eye.
"I hate to see what he’s going to go through, but there’s going to be a transitional period there that they’ve got to go from being a kid to being an adult,” Vanilla Ice/Rob says. “When the whole world is watching, it’s a lot on your shoulders. It’s very entertaining to everybody watching when it doesn’t go very well. [Laughs] But it’s awesome and entertaining on the opposite side after that to pull for that person, and see them do good.”
His tips for Justin? Stay humble, learn from your mistakes, and take responsibility. “That goes for Lindsay Lohan, too," he continued to OK! "Nobody’s going to be able to control her or straighten her out but herself. Out of all the clinics and people and concerned parents and OMG people — they’re not going to be able to do anything for her. She’s got to do it herself.”
