The Lying Game’s Alexandra Chando on Emma’s Fate in Season 2: “I Think the Audience Will Be Shocked”
Alexandra Chando gets double the air time of your typical actress thanks to her dual role as twins Sutton Mercer and Emma Becker on The Lying Game. The two-timing beauty exclusively spoke to Wetpaint Entertainment while attending the “Bands for Beds” fundraiser hosted by co-star Charisma Carpenter in Hollywood to raise money for Bethlehem Parents Primary School in Uganda.
Alexandra gave us the lowdown on what Season 2 has in store for both Emma and Sutton, and which boy Emma will be giving a chance this time around.
Wetpaint Entertainment: So tell me why you’re here at this great event tonight? Alexandra Chando: I think it’s a great event and a great cause. As a cast, we’ve kind of become a family, especially being in Austin, so we do everything we can to support each other which is great and it’s a great opportunity to support Charisma [Carpenter] and support Allie [Gonino], she’s performing and also it’s a wonderful cause and something that I know Charisma has been working with for a long time so it’s just nice to come out and do what we can.
Do you have any charities of your own, apart from tonight? [Smiles] I do! I actually mentor a young girl through the non-profit Create Now, which basically hooks people up with at risk youth that need mentors. So I’m mentoring a young girl right now and I’m actually just starting to become involved with the Build On organization, which at some point this year, depending upon my schedule, we’re trying to figure it out, I’m going to go to Malawi and help build a school.
Good for you! Well, tell me what we can expect from both your characters on the show? Oh, my goodness. You can expect a lot of drama, obviously. I think a big thing which I really like is you kind of see the fighter back in Emma. She makes some discoveries of her own that nobody discovers and so she is the main person that’s still kind of on the case so she makes some discoveries, which is awesome, and Sutton goes through some really vulnerable emotional things as well.
What’s the best and worst part about playing twins? The worst is definitely the hours. It’s very time consuming. Long, long, long days. The best is the ability to develop these two characters and play the sweet and the kind of evil girl.
Yeah! Well, Emma and Ethan should obviously be together. Is there hope? I don’t know! Some people say she should be with Thayer! It just kind of depends on your preference. Emma and Thayer—what can you say about them, going forward? I think it’s a relationship that Emma needs to explore because Thayer’s always been there for her and she does have some feelings for him but I think she is also trying to get over Ethan so it’s a struggle for her. It is because Ethan’s so hunky! He’s hunky! Not that they both aren’t! [Laughs] They’re both very handsome men! You’re very lucky. Can you give us any idea when and how Emma will find out Rebecca is her mom? Um. I can’t . I understand. Well, how creative do you think the writers will get? Well, I know they get very creative. There’s going to be a lot of twists and turns and I think the audience will be shocked as to what entails. And Emma and Sutton’s relationship—what can you say about that? Uh, I think it’s an inner struggle with Emma because she wants to have a sister and have that relationship, but at the same time, she doesn’t trust Sutton, so it’s kind of that consistent battle between the two.
Have you ever met anyone as conniving as Sutton? Maybe. Possibly. I’m sure there are tons of people.
