Is Nathan Fillion’s Former Show Firefly Returning to TV?
As many of you already know, Nathan Fillion once starred in the short lived sci-fi drama Firefly, created by big-time director Joss Whedon. While the show only survived one season, it garnered a huge cult following and many would like to see it return — including Joss Whedon!
According to Zap2it, the writer/director isn't quite ready to relinquish the Firefly dream.
"I'll never really accept it," he said. "And I always, in the back of my head, think, 'What if I could get the old gang back together?'"
At the moment, Joss has a lot on his plate before he can even think of reviving the show. Since his massive summer hit Avengers, he’s in the middle of its sequel, Avengers 2, and a possible TV spin-off called S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s considered the idea of going back to Firefly after Avengers 2 wraps, but then added, "I suspect very strongly that after Avengers 2, the next thing I do will be a one man show. Possibly one monkey."
Not to mention, the movie Serenity tied up a lot of loose ends for the one-hit-wonder, killing off main characters. But where there’s a will, there’s a way … sort of.
In order to make it work, the stars of Firefly would have to come back, but they’re all pretty booked — Nathan Fillion’s got Castle, Gina Torres (who makes an appearance on an upcoming episode of Castle) is doing her thing on Suits, Alan Tudyk is on Suburgatory, and the list goes on. For now, we can just dream about the show coming back, but with a guy like Joss Whedon, nothing’s impossible.
