Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 Owen and Cristina Spoiler Roundup: They’re “On a Complex Journey,” Says Shonda Rhimes
On Grey’s AnatomySeason 9, Episode 13: “Bad Blood,”Owen (Kevin McKidd) is facing a tough situation at work, especially now that he’s been forced to bring in Dr. Cahill to help the hospital refinance following its $15 million payout — but his relationship with Cristina (Sandra Oh) seems to be at an all-time high. Season 9 Episode 12: “Walking on a Dream” showed the aftermath of Owen and Cristina’s divorce, which they got to ensure that she could be paid her share of the settlement — and it seems the the couple is getting along better than ever! But can it last? We’ve rounded up all of the Cristina and Owen relationship spoilers this episode to give you the scoop on whether or not the couple will ever return to their beloved firehouse!
For right now, Cristina seems to be staying put at Alex’s — and show creator Shonda Rhimes does not have any plans to move the pair back into the firehouse. Or even to keep the firehouse as a set at all. “I actually gave the word we could dismantle that set,” Shonda told The Hollywood Reporter.
OK, so they’re not headed back into domestic bliss anytime soon, but will the pair continue to stay together despite Owen’s infidelity, Cristina’s feelings about not wanting kids, and the couple’s fallout following her abortion? Maybe. "I really like idea of portraying the scientist in Cristina who's not interested in kids,” Shonda says. “That struggle between these two people is going to remain and be very complex.”
No matter what might happen for one of the hospital’s power couples in the future, right now, Shonda Rimes is content with where they are. Guess that means “Bad Blood” is going to focus a bit more on their lives inside the hospital walls instead! “They are genuinely happy and their happiness doesn't necessarily mean that they need to be in the firehouse,” she says. “They’re on a complex journey.”
To follow that journey, be sure catch the next new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
