The X FactorSeason 2 was a cornucopia of delights, starting with CeCe Frey’s leopard print face paint and ending in an explosion of glitter and twang. As we endure the bleak winter that is The X Factor offseason, we’re dying to know who will replace dearly departed judges L.A. Reid and Britney Spears. Will FOX pull another Idol and slap two music megastars on the marquee?
One big name keeps popping up on our radar: Ne-Yo. The R&B singer and veteran music producer (real name: Shaffer Chimere Smith) has been tapped by FOX producers as a potential Season 3 judge, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And for good reason; Ne-Yo’s resume includes writing credits for Rihanna (“Unfaithful” and “Take a Bow” to name just two), Leona Lewis, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Beyonce Knowles.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ne-Yo confirms he’s spoken with show execs about joining Season 3, but the negotiations are far from the official stage. “It honestly and truly may not happen. It’s just conversation right now and everybody knows that in L.A., until the ink is dry on the contract, nothing is for certain.”
However, if offered the position, Ne-Yo’s confident about about what he would bring to the judging panel. “I feel like I have some vital information that I can give to an artist that will guarantee them as a career as opposed to a flash-in-the-pan,” he explains. “And we all know that it's very, very easy for that to happen nowadays.”
