Pretty Little Liars

Is Rosewood High School Real — Or Does It Only Exist on Pretty Little Liars?

The universe of Pretty Little Liars is pretty wild and crazy, and the show’s town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania is no exception. A wealthy suburb whose residents hide dark secrets behind pristine doors makes for intriguing television — but is it a real place? And is the infamous Rosewood High real, or merely a figment of our collective imagination?

To answer your question, Rosewood and Rosewood High School are fictional places, though they are likely based on real ones. The author of the Pretty Little Liars book series, Sara Shepard, probably based the well-to-do suburb of Rosewood on Philadelphia’s Main Line, a collection of affluent towns which houses some of Pennsylvania’s wealthiest families.

And in case you were curious, there is in fact an actual Rosewood High School in Goldsboro, NC! Not quite as fancy as our beloved PLL high school, but still cool to know.
