Tristan MacManus on How DWTS Has Changed Since He Arrived: “The Comparing Has Increased”

Right now it’s still off-season for the Dancing With the Stars pros, and they’re all keeping busy in different ways. Tristan MacManus has been dancing across the country, along with fellow pros like Anna Trebunskaya, Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin.

Tristan talked about his schedule in a new Q&A with, and in the interview they noted a lot has changed since he started as a member of the DWTS pro troupe back on Season 12.

“One of the major things I guess is that I’m a little more known now but still untested I guess to a certain degree in people’s eyes,” said Tristan. “I’m still having fun though! I think the comparing has increased since I joined — is he better than this person, is he nicer than him, funnier than him? I guess that’s the nature of the beast. It’s funny, but I just like getting on with what I do. It doesn’t matter if we place first or last so the comparisons don’t faze me. As far as everything else, I think the show knows now how to really get more out of the troupe and use them a lot more than our first troupe, so that’s great to see. There have been tweaks with certain pros swapping in and out so again most things have stayed the same. I think production-wise there have been a lot more changes than cast.”

To be honest, we’re a little worried about some of the pros swapping in and out for Season 16 (which starts March 18 on ABC). Kym Johnson is down in Australia, and both Cheryl Burke and Derek Hough have hinted to wanting some time off. (Plus, Maksim Chmerkovskiy has said he’s leaving when his contract expires at the end of this year.) We have no idea which pros will return, but obviously Tristan should be among them. And we have to note we’re as guilty as anyone when it comes to “comparing” pros — who is nicest, funniest, and (maybe too often) hottest. Tristan always wins!
