Emma Watson Defends Kristen Stewart: “The Media Picked on Her in a Very Horrible Way”

If anyone knows what it's like to be a girl in the spotlight of a huge fan favorite franchise, it's Emma Watson. (And Jennifer Lawrence. But never mind her for a minute.)

The actress formerly known as Harry Potter’s female BFF Hermione is on the new cover of Vanity Fair Italy. In the magazine, Emma defends Twilight star Kristen Stewart from the attacks she faced for her "indiscretion" with married director Rupert Sanders (who was relatively spared by both fans and the media, probably because he wasn't as famous as KStew... and he wasn't dating Robert Pattinson at the time).

“Those who criticized her are the same people that think that being rich and famous is like being covered in some kind of magic powder that makes life perfect: Nothing can go wrong in your wonderful world," Emma said (via Gossip Cop). “For these people, Kristen deserves all the bad things that have been thrown at her because she had an amazing life and she ruined it. ... I thought that the media picked on her in a very horrible way. Kristen is human, just like everybody else, and she’s so young. ... Everyone makes mistakes, everyone. It’s not fair to consider them matters of public interest. On one hand, I can understand why it happened: people felt really involved in her relationship with Robert Pattinson. But it’s also true that they both have done everything in their power to keep their relationship as far from the public eye as possible."

Well, yeah, now that they don't have to promote Twilight anymore and are working on separate projects, they are staying out of the public eye. It can be frustrating when the "she's so young" argument is thrown in, since Emma is also young and there are plenty of 22-year-olds who have never kissed a married man. But we've always thought KStew got too harsh a sentence for her kisses. She deserved to be called out — since she herself revealed that she did have that "indiscretion" — but not half as much as the married man who not only cheated, he abused his power as Kristen’s director. It happens all the time in Hollywood, but this time they got caught, and when everyone else scurried away, Kristen was left to wear the scarlet letter.
