Girl Meets World Casting: Danielle Fishel Loves “Adorable” Daughter, but Who’ll Play Her Son and “The Crush”?

It's Topanga time! OK! Magazine is lucky enough to enjoy Fishel Fridays with Boy Meets World alum and upcoming Girl Meets World star Danielle Fishel. The Disney Channel show has cast the titular “Girl,” plus her best friend, but Danielle said they still have some roles to fill.

“We are still in the casting process, we are trying to find the boys of the show,” she said. “So, our son and 'the crush' for our daughter, and one other character that I think's going to be really exciting for people." Fun!

Rowan Blanchard will play Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s daughter, Riley. "How freaking adorable is she?” Danielle said of Rowan. “I want to gobble her up and hug her and kiss her and protect her and be her mother! ... I really do think she looks like a really good combination of the two of us,” Danielle continued. “She's got, like, Ben's skin tone and Ben's eyes and she has my hair. And I think she's truly adorable. And even more adorable when you see her in action."

The best friend character, Maya, will be played by Sabrina Carpenter, who has “a biting wit" and quick sense of humor, Danielle said. That character is closest to the "Shawn" character, in Boy Meets World terms, and thinks she has it all figured out.

Because it's the 21st century, Danielle said there are going to be technological things on the show that were never around when Boy Meets World aired. The differences between today's kids vs. kids of the '90s also factored into the casting of Rowan as Riley. Rowan is 11, but Riley is going to be 12. They were originally going to have her be 13, but decided to change that. Watch Danielle’s video or more on why.
