Once Upon a Time Script Spoiler: Rumple and Henry Talk About the Future in “Manhattan”

The Once Upon A Time creators have released another script spoiler for next week’s episode (Season 2, Episode 14: “Manhattan”), and this one is a bit harder to pin down than the others. The exchange is between Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Henry (Jared Gilmore), and, ironically enough, it is on the subject of knowing the future:

“But you wouldn’t have to worry about stuff,” Henry says to Mr. Gold. “You’d just know.”

“But that’s the great trap,” replies Gold. “The future is like a puzzle. With missing pieces. Difficult to read. And never what you think.”

“Manhattan” sees the unlikely trio of Gold, Henry, and Emma Emma (Jennifer Morrison) scouring New York City for Gold’s son, Baelfire. If we had to guess, we’d say this conversation is about Gold’s nervousness at the prospect of seeing his son again. Considering he chose magic over following his son into the Land Without Magic (our world) to start a new life, we can’t say we wouldn’t be worried either. Gold has some explaining to do.

We’ve always liked the dynamic between baddie Gold and boy wonder Henry, but this exchange is even more adorable if our theory that Bae is really Henry’s father, Neal Cassady (Michael Raymond-James), is correct. If we’re right, that means Gold is Henry’s grandfather. We’re hoping Henry comes up with a suitably embarrassing term to call Gold (Grandrumps?).

We also can’t help but notice the meta quality of a spoiler that comments on misreading clues about the future. Are the OUAT creators getting cheekier or is it just us? Share your theories about the exchange above in the comments below!
