Adopted Boy Gets His Own Newborn Photo Shoot 13 Years Later
If you check out Latrell Higgins’ photos from a session with his adoptive mom, Kelli Higgins, you might think their family is a little cuckoo! After all, they did do a newborn photo shoot for the 13-year-old boy, complete with pics of Latrell swaddled in a blanket and pictures of his not-so-tiny and not-at-all-newborn feet. Actually, the funny Higgins family was making memories for Latrell, who they adopted two years ago. Turns out that Latrell doesn’t have any baby pictures of himself, so his new 12-year-old sister thought it would be a cool idea to have their mom, who is a professional photographer, “recreate” a newborn photo shoot for Latrell.
The whole family had a laugh, but Latrell was totally into the idea and has really loved the support his photos have received on his mom’s Facebook page. The post reads, “Here’s my sweet not so little newborn! His name is Latrell and weighs 112 lbs.” Besides being a totally sweet thing to do for Latrell, the photos, which have gone viral, have started positive conversations about adopting older children. “The one reaction that is really humbling and I’m really excited about is there have been a lot of parents that come to me telling me that they were thinking about adopting a baby, but after seeing those photos it’s changed their minds and they want to adopt an older child,” Kelli told Today.
