Anne Hathaway’s Bad BAFTAs: My Dress Ripped, I Had the Flu, Fans Booed Me
Anne Hathaway is so perpetually sunny, even a sob story ends with a happy rainbow.
She was just on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, talking about a wardrobe malfunction she had while getting ready for the 2013 BAFTAs. "I was wearing the most beautiful dress,” Anne said. “It was just such a fairy-tale moment. Like this dress was custom-made for me and designed with me in mind. It was so wonderful. [Pause] And the zipper broke while they were putting it on me." Uh-oh!
She said they spent 20 minutes trying to sew her into the dress, and even though everyone told her she looked great, she said, "I look like a turkey that has been sewn together." They ultimately decided it wouldn't work, so they cut her out of the dress and she went with the black Burberry backup dress we saw her in. But it made her very late for the BAFTAs. She had to run to the end of the red carpet and had to skip the interviews. She also got booed by fans, since they were waiting out in the cold and rain to see her and she didn’t stop for them.
"So I got booed, my dress ripped, and I had the flu,” Anne said. The audience started to “aww” in sympathy, but Anne stopped them. “But it turned out great 'cause I got to hug George Clooney. That's the whole point!" OK, then! We’re not sure how getting the flu, having the wardrobe malfunction and being booed leads to George Clooney, but we’ll have to try it sometime.
