Injured Lady Gaga’s Canceled Tour: How Much Money Lost?
Lady Gaga has canceled all her remaining Born This Way Ball tour dates after suffering a labral tear of her right hip, which will require surgery and recovery time.
According to Billboard, "In total, 22 shows were cancelled, forcing the refund of roughly 200,000 tickets worth approximately $25 million in gross ticket sales."
Up to January 17, Billboard said the tour had grossed $168.2 million and sold 1.6 million tickets to 85 shows, with the Asia, Europe, and South American legs already completed in 2012. The North American leg of the tour, which would wrap it up, was almost completely sold out. Billboard said it would've put the tour at more than $200 million gross, easily in the top 20 tours of all time and probably in the top 15. With these canceled dates, Gaga's tour will finish sixth among all touring artists in 2012, with a gross of $125 million and attendance of more than 1.1 million.
Mother Monster was “devastated” to have to cancel her tour, writing to fans, “I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. I’m devastated & sad. It will hopefully heal as soon as possible. I hate this. I hate this so much. I love you and I’m sorry.”
